6 tips to keep your eyes cool in summer
And it’s back! Season of bikinis and beaches, of shorts and ice creams! While we love the season for its mangoes and pina coladas, there are a lot of things that we have to take care of during this season.
We want to flaunt our legs in that awesome skirt, yet we are afraid of getting tanned. And if you live in an area where summer stretches it arms wide, you are up for a challenge, mate!
I am sure you must be grinning after owning all that sunscreens you’ve stocked up. Let me remind you that sunscreen is not the only weapon against the blaring summer.
Each and every part of your body gets affected and we are here to take care of your eyes.
Follow these tips and tricks to enjoy the beach weather while it is here:
Be mindful of where the AC is
During summers, the body can face extreme dehydration. We are all aware of the consequences of dehydration, but did you know that eyes also get affected by it. Dry eye is a condition where the eye loses it moisture and lacks lubrication on the eye surface. Hence, keep yourself hydrated and drink plenty of water. However, direct air from your air conditioner can also dry the moisture in your eye. Make sure that the AC shaft is down and the cold air is not directly hitting your face.
Sunglasses to your rescue
All the mumbo-jumbo around how sunglasses shield your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun is absolutely true! You MUST wear UV protected sunnies while the sun is at its best. And, well, who minds looking as pretty as Audrey Hepburn.
Keep it simple with makeup
You would want to go (sort of) naked with your makeup, given the heat and harsh temperature of the season. But make sure to add that shield of sunscreen. Use waterproof mascara and liner to avoid it from flowing to your eyes due to sweat. Use a good face powder to prevent your makeup from melting. I would also advice to kiss those dark goggles goodbye (atleast for a day outing).
Cold Cotton dips
This is one of the easiest and quickest ways to rejuvenate and freshen your eyes. However, there are a number of ways that you can go about it:
- Soak cotton balls in cold water.
- Take a jar. Put some rose water in it. Add few cotton balls and keep it in the refrigerator. The cotton balls will soak the rose water. Whenever you get back from the heat, your little jar of happiness will always be there for you.
- Take some cold milk. Dip some cotton balls in it and let it soak the milk. The cold milk also helps to reduce puffy eyes.
Keep it fresh with fruit
There are so many summer fruits that hit the market during the season. They are refreshing to eat. But do you know they can aid in cooling your eyes and skin as well. Slice refrigerated strawberry or watermelon and then place it over your eyes to rid your eyes off the heat.
Keep it cool with coolants
There are a number of coolants available for the eyes these days – gel masks being the most common. You just need to cool them in the fridge and then place in on your eyes. However, you can also make your own Ice pack if you don’t want to invest in a gel mask. Just wrap an ice cube in a clean cotton or muslin cloth and voila! Your ice pack is ready.
Summery tip: Add slices of watermelon or cucumber in the ice tray to make fruit-ice-cubes.
And here you go, a catalogue full of tips to keep your eyes bright and sparkling even in this sultry weather.
